When the American Rescue Plan was signed by President Joe Biden in 2021, the White House claimed that the expanded Child Tax Credit included in the bill would cut childhood poverty in half. As the President and congress attempted to pass the Build Back Better plan, which would have included an extension for the tax credit which originally expired in December, one of the major opponents was Democratic Senator Joe Manchin from West Virginia. This documentary explores the impact the tax credit had and the disappointment in its expiration from the viewpoints of JoAnna Vance, a community organizer and mother of three, and Deanna McKinney, a Charleston city councilwoman and grandmother.
